People with the Gu surname are mainly distributed in Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung and other places, and they mostly live in clusters. The history of their migration to Taiwan mainly started during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty (such as 1707 and 1721). Most of their ancestors came from Guangdong Province (especially Hakka areas such as Meixian, Wuhua, and Jiaoling), accounting for about 90% of the ancestral origins of the Taigu family.
